In December, Rawak lured Danny Rocco away from CAA rival Richmond to direct the football team. In May, Natasha Adair left Georgetown to take over the women's basketball program, and Ben DeLuca took over the men's lacrosse program.

The women's basketball team went undefeated in CAA play in the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 seasons under head coach Tina Martin and All-American Elena Delle Donne. The 2011–2012 team finished went 31–2 and undefeated in the CAA conference (18–0) to win the conference championship. This win over UALR was the first by a Delaware women's team in NCAA tournament history. The 2012–2013 team finished 32–4 overall, ranked #15 in the final AP poll. This senior class, which includes Chelsea Craig and Jaquetta May, won more games than any senior class in Delaware women's basketball history, and won two CAA Conference Championships.

The seven conference titles Delaware has won since Rawak came – three in field hockey and one each in men's soccer , baseball , women's golf and women's outdoor track and field – were all by teams with head coaches who were here before Rawak's arrival. The CAA's decision applies only to football for now, but UD says it is shutting down all fall sports. That affects 11 teams, including field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Rawak will become the sixth director of Athletics at Delaware since the position was established in 1940.

The director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services reports directly to the president and is a member of the University's senior staff. UD is part of the Colonial Athletic Conference which has only canceled football, but Rawak said UD will cancel the entire fall sports program including cross country, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, rowing, tennis and golf. NCSA offers student student athletes the tools and information they need to increase their chances of being recruited by a Field Hockey program, whether it is at University of Delaware or another school. NCSA offers student athletes the resources and info they need to increase their odds of being recruited by a Women's Swimming program, whether it's at University of Delaware or another school. On the positive side, this means the program didn't lose any money - and that's not something every college sports program can claim. Delaware welcomed its swimmers & divers back to campus for voluntary conditioning workouts on June 10th.

Last season, the Delaware women finished 5th out of 7 teams at the CAA Championships, while the Delaware men finished 5th out of 5 teams. The school has not released a swimming & diving schedule nor any specific plans for their path forward in winter season athletics like swimming & diving, though their football team is not playing this fall. One of its more impressive enhancements was the $168 million complex that will be home to the school's lacrosse, track and field, cross country and rowing teams.

According to Rawak, the campaign's key component was developing an understanding in the UM community about the department's importance while investing potential donors in the lives of the athletes who would benefit. If any team at UD deserves an upgrade, it's van de Kerkhof's squad, which accomplished the improbable last fall. At a time when the Division I ranks in nearly all sports are dominated by big conference schools, Delaware captured the national championship, dumping North Carolina in the final, 3-2.

The Blue Hens won their final 19 games and finished the season 23-2, capping a remarkable campaign. The basketball teams staying overnight at hotels before games at nearby Drexel and Towson and the football team sleeping in a hotel the night before home games are potential cost-cutting targets. This fall, the soccer, volleyball and field hockey teams are playing fewer games that involve significantly less travel. Note, the individual salary of coaches is often dependent on the team they coach. At the end of June, Division III Wesley College announced its football program, along with other fall sports, would still go on, but the school is still consulting with various athletic conferences and the NCAA about those games still scheduled. No matter how many other teams at Delaware succeed, even at the highest levels, football remains the defining program at the school.

But the last several seasons have not been very appetizing, on the field or for the fans, for a variety of reasons. There was also a sense from Blue Hen supporters that he ignored local high school prospects when building his team. As Chrissi Rawak surveys the broader UD athletic landscape, she sees possibilities for more successes like the field hockey team's.

Rawak, the school's athletic director since May 2016, believes every UD squad has the potential to win a championship—maybe not on the national level—and expects the coaches she hires and retains to adopt the same attitude. A three-sport standout at Wilmington High School, Art Madric has a noteworthy championship history in the sport of track & field. As a head coach, he guided his squads to 15 state championship and three New Castle County championships, and assisted with six other state championship teams. A combination of women's and men's sports, our student-athletes mainly compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference consisting of 8 Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Southeastern and the Mid-Atlantic United States. DSU also competes with non-conference schools from across the nation. The mission of the Delaware Tech Athletic Department is to provide a comprehensive support program for all student-athletes that promotes academic success, a positive athletic experience, and overall personal growth.

The NCAA still has the program listed as a Division III member, but that will disappear at the end of June, too. Rocco cites roster management as an example of UD's dedication to returning to a level that got it to three national title games between 2003 and 2010. Under a new NCAA rule, schools are allowed more players in preseason practices, in large part to protect them from repetitive injuries. Since those participants aren't scholarship team members, they don't require the same investment as those with grants-in-aid, but they still must be fed, equipped and treated by training staff. Over a span of 42 years as a high school football coach, won 264 games at Wilmington, McKean, and Concord to rank third all-time in state history. His teams won three state titles, made 11 tournament appearances, and several of his players went on to NFL careers.

The men's golf program at UD made $346,039 in revenue and spent $346,039 in expenses. According to Dollmeyer, there was no universal support for Keeler's successor, Dave Brock, who posted a record in three-plus seasons. Brock's teams played dreary football that didn't produce victories over CAA rivals, particularly Villanova, which has now won 10 of the last 11 games against Delaware, including five straight. Furthermore, the athletic department's tying of high donations for prime season ticket seats was extremely unpopular.

Rawak has scaled back the contribution requirements, which, coupled with Rocco's hiring, has helped restore goodwill. Rocco's decision to switch addresses within the conference was based on institutional commitment to athletics. Late in the 2016 season, he was quoted as asking Richmond's athletic department and university administrators, "What is the vision for the future of the football program? A coach for 30 years, including 11 as the boss at Richmond and Liberty University, Rocco is keenly aware of what it takes to win at the highest levels.

In the 1960s, he was a player, manager, head coach and recruiter for championship teams in baseball, football and basketball. At the peak era of the Delaware Semi-Pro Baseball League, he recruited talent for Brooks Armored Car, for whom he was player-manager. The team broke Parkway's grip over the league, winning championships in 1963 and 1964 and drawing crowds approaching 4,000. He began his high school coaching at Sanford ( ) and Howard ( ), and before retiring from the Wilmington Fire Department in 1991, he accepted a position at Glasgow.

He was named the state's coach of the year six times for indoor track & field and two times for outdoor track & field. His coaching specialty came in the hurdles and his athletes won state titles and set numerous records in those events, as well as in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. In 1960 he established the Diamond State Athletic Camp held at the Sanford School and led the organization for 11 years. Considered to be the first of its kind overnight athletic camp, the DSAC offered week-long programs in football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling and attracted leading coaches and players from the college and professional ranks. In addition, he has managed finances, arranged all-star game, tournament schedules, chaired the committee to choose the DBCA Hall of Fame class, heightened communication among coaches, and led fundraising for Carpenter Cup teams.
